When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
I will actually be having some “me-time” today! I got a babysitter for the afternoon and one of my sisters and I are taking my mom out wine tasting and to a nice lunch for her birthday, which was earlier this week.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
It’s funny because I think a lot of time people think of self-care are a physical thing. Messages, getting your nails and hair done, actually caring for your physical self. And I do those things, however I usually do them with my children (not the messages haha) But I have been taking all 3 of my kids with me, since they were in the womb, to my hair appointments, nail appointments, doctors appointment etc. So for me self care is less about the physical and more about the mental. I think its important to spend time with just adults! Whether it’s grabbing a coffee with girlfriends, a dinner with another couple, or even taking a workout class together. Time with just adults is so important to me. To be able to have an entire conversation without resolving a fight, wiping a nose (or butt) or telling someone not to climb on something, is refreshing and definitely puts me in a better mood.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
Listen, it’s not always easy and sometimes its impossible. We all have times when it seems like it’s mom life 24/7, but I have always loved the saying “you can’t fill from an empty cup”. If you’re wiped out mentally or physically how much can you really be giving to your kids at that point? If you have a significant other or family close by or even supportive friends, have a conversation with them about needing some you time. Whether it’s taking the time to get your nails done, or meeting a friend for coffee, whatever it is, let them know you need it. Lean on other people and allow them to help, so that you can make sure you are getting everything you need. Nothing makes my husband appreciate me being a stay at home mom more than spending an entire day, or even afternoon, alone with our kids!

When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
When I went to the supermarket and did the shopping alone! Joking. I went out for dinner and drinks with a girlfriend last weekend. It’s always great to catch up sans kiddies and finish a conversation!
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
I love to do little things for myself - take a bath, paint my nails, sit and read a book or put on some fake tan! My next goal is to add some exercise back into my self care routine.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
I think work out the best time that will fit in with your family’s schedule and then make the time work. Personally I find after my kids go to bed is the best time. They are early risers (thus early to bed) and I’m not really a morning person so getting up before them is hard!

When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
So, ironically TODAY (haha). I had ‘me-time’ and I say ironically because I don’t get a whole lot having a newborn and a five year old and it just so happens today is the day I did. Today I went and I got my eyelashes filled. Every two weeks I dedicate a couple hours to do this.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
It’s SO hard to find balance around self-care when caring for two small children. However, not only am I a mom - I am a mom in sobriety. It makes it a little more challenging, yet rewarding. So my favorite ways to practice self-care when it comes to my outside appearance -I get my lashes done or I get my roots touched up. I am SUPER and I work in the beauty industry & get a hook up with people willing to accommodate me and my crazy schedule . I try to go to the gym but it’s SO hard to find the time. Being sober self-care also looks a little different - I constantly have to stay vigilant when it comes to helping other alcoholics (sponsorship), finding time to meditate, my spiritual life - basically how am I living when nobody is watching .
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
Self-care looks SO different for every mother depending on their circumstances. Some people would find it crazy I get my lashes done. However, for me? I meditate during that time. I get to relax. Interact with adults. It gives me some piece of mind to step away - it’s not too long but it’s enough to feel super grateful to go back home and back into the swing of things .
I would say for anyone struggling finding ‘me-time’ I would have them revisit life before or a hobby or passion. I think life gets super busy and we need to be the best versions of ourselves for our kids and sometimes that requires to step away and be selfish.

When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
I’ve found going back to work part time has been a great form of “me-time”. I’m starting to feel more like Stacey again and not just Penny & Stella’s mum. I love my job and having that adult interaction has done wonders for my mental health.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
I get my nails and hair done regularly, while the girls have some daddy/daughter time. It’s always nice to just relax and not worry about all the things on the to-do list.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
I think self care, especially in new mums, is so important. Even if it’s getting up a little earlier than the kids to enjoy your coffee in peace or leaving the housework while they nap. Any don’t be ashamed to ask for help! You’d be surprised how many people are willing to take the kids off your hands for a little bit.
