Two minutes with … Chelsea Bourke, mama to Charlie, aged almost 3 years

When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
Last Sunday I had a lunch date with my mum, child free. This is a rare occurrence but that made it extra special.

What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?

To go for a walk. Even if its only 30 minutes once a week. Getting out in the fresh air, listening to my favorite music really recharges me. I do my best thinking and I feel like I can organise my thoughts with no distractions, or simply think of nothing and clear my mind if I choose to.What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?

This is something we all struggle with and I don’t think any mum has it sorted all of the time and knowing your not alone can be comfort enough. Be kind to yourself and let go of household deadlines. It doesn’t matter if the washing is delayed, take the time you need for yourself, when you need it and you will be a better mum for it. The washing can wait, even if its only an hour or two. Doing something for yourself with that time instead.

Two minutes with … Samantha Curtis, mama to Nolan, aged 7 years, Paislee, aged 5 years and Piper, 10 months

When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
I get massages every 2-3 weeks. It’s the one thing I get to do FOR myself and BY myself. Even when I get my nails done, or do a mask at home, or something like that, there’s always a kid near me or climbing on me. So this is my monthly treat to myself!

What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?

Massages, facials, nails, going for walks, getting Starbucks.. all things that make me happy!

What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?

My husband is very supportive and I always let him know when I have a massage and he makes sure he’s home to watch the kids. I think scheduling an hour a week or every two weeks is SO important whether it’s a solo shopping trip, Starbucks to read or work, or whatever. Something where you can turn your phone off for an hour and just be with yourself.
