When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?

I work full time and I also parent full time with no childcare (made possible by a very hands-on dad, fortunately). But this means I basically have zero time to myself. I am an early riser and even more so now that I have my son - so my ‘me time’ happens around 4:45/5 am to 7 am. I love being awake before everyone else and immersing myself in the quiet of the house, my thoughts, and a little work before it goes bonkers a few hours later.

What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?

I work for self care. That might sound a little funny to some, but I work for myself and I find the work I do extremely rewarding. I think self care isn’t just about relaxing - it can be anything so long as it ignites and maintains a flame within you.

What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?

Treat it like a meeting or part of a job. Schedule it in your calendar just like you would an appointment for your little one and stick to it. Also, don’t ask permission for ‘me-time’ from your family. It’s your responsibility to give it to yourself. Treat it like it’s non-negotiable, because it is. You don’t ask if it’s ok with everyone if you can go get your teeth cleaned, right? It’s just something you do. You make an appointment and then you go to the dentist. Do the same for your own personal time. And remember, it’s what you need to do to give back to your family. It’s just as important as going to the dentist.
