When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
I try to carve a little “me-time” each day. Whether that is getting up an hour before my son and spending that time drinking coffee, meditating and gratitude journaling or getting my workouts in! Those are both things I aim for at least 5 days a week.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
Trying a new healthy recipe ( bonus if my son approves and eats it ) meditating, reading, journalling etc.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
My advice is that we need to remember that we are in charge of our lives and time. If you set aside that time, you will feel that much more present with your children and you’ll have more energy and patience! We are actually doing our loved ones a disservice if we are worn down, irritable and unhealthy. This could mean choosing to not watch Netflix or scroll social media on our phones and instead decide to do a 20-30 min home workout or a take a bath after kids go down to bed. I make the time by getting up early, choosing the at the moment harder route time to time ( choosing to cook fresh meals for 30 mins instead of stopping for fast food ) for the greater pay off.

When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
The last time I had ‘Me Time” was on Saturday morning. I went to a small Christmas party with some close girlfriends. Being with these ladies whom I’ve known for such a long time is so relaxing and rejuvenating. We sat around and chatted all things Mom Life, with lots of laughs and smiles! It is a fabulous way to get out and enjoy community with fellow Mommas!
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
For me, self care is anything that makes me feel joyful. Now that joyful feeling is fleeting, which is important to remember. But, if something brings me joy I consider it to fall under self care. I love to find small pockets of self care throughout my day - whether that be a small chocolate after lunch or a hot bath at the end of the day, it gives me a moment to take a breathe and be thankful.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
I think “self care” is a buzz word at the moment. On social media it has the potential to look a certain way that can maybe make us feel like our “self care” isn’t enough or it’s not the right kind of self care. It’s important to remember that self care while it truly is important, it is very personal and looks different for everyone.
My suggestion is to find things that make you smile throughout the day - and if you’re struggling to figure out what that is - experiment. Try something, and if it doesn’t feel like joy, try something else! Know it’s ok if you don’t know what brings you joy right now, half the fun is in the journey to discover that and that, that can sometimes be enough.
It’s also important to be intentional about it. Of course as women we have one million things to do on the ever revolving to do list. My advice is to write it down, put it on the schedule and don’t cancel. Be intentional to keep the date. This absolutely without a doubt takes determination and grit. Keep the babysitter even though it’s cheaper not to, make your partner put the kids to bed alone, even though they do better for you. I promise, the more you do it the more you see how necessary it is and thus the easier it does get to make the time. It is so very good for the kids to see you enjoying life!

When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
I went to my favorite yoga teacher’s loft just last night. We did a 20 minute meditation and then a 60 minute modified ashtanga class.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
Great nutrition, drinking water, yoga, meditation, prayer, reading, weight lifting, being outdoors, taking a bath, getting a massage, listening to music
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
Schedule it - make it a priority! Just like you schedule other appointments for yourself or your family, schedule in me-time. If you have a partner, work with that person and ask for their support. If you don’t have a partner, seek out local friends that can be your support network. Even just taking 5 minutes for yourself, maybe sitting in the car after running an errand while you listen to music, will help!
