When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
So, ironically TODAY (haha). I had ‘me-time’ and I say ironically because I don’t get a whole lot having a newborn and a five year old and it just so happens today is the day I did. Today I went and I got my eyelashes filled. Every two weeks I dedicate a couple hours to do this.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
It’s SO hard to find balance around self-care when caring for two small children. However, not only am I a mom - I am a mom in sobriety. It makes it a little more challenging, yet rewarding. So my favorite ways to practice self-care when it comes to my outside appearance -I get my lashes done or I get my roots touched up. I am SUPER and I work in the beauty industry & get a hook up with people willing to accommodate me and my crazy schedule . I try to go to the gym but it’s SO hard to find the time. Being sober self-care also looks a little different - I constantly have to stay vigilant when it comes to helping other alcoholics (sponsorship), finding time to meditate, my spiritual life - basically how am I living when nobody is watching .
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
Self-care looks SO different for every mother depending on their circumstances. Some people would find it crazy I get my lashes done. However, for me? I meditate during that time. I get to relax. Interact with adults. It gives me some piece of mind to step away - it’s not too long but it’s enough to feel super grateful to go back home and back into the swing of things .
I would say for anyone struggling finding ‘me-time’ I would have them revisit life before or a hobby or passion. I think life gets super busy and we need to be the best versions of ourselves for our kids and sometimes that requires to step away and be selfish.
