When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
Ever since the birth of my son last October, I have not had proper me time however I try to squeeze in time to do the little things I enjoy.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
Exercising is my number one self care routine. I dedicate an hour in the morning and an hour before I go to bed. I make sure I rest especially when my son takes his naps or I relax and DO NOTHING. I make sure to pour myself a glass of WINE and unwind after a long day.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
It is important to take out dedicated “me-time” for moms because it’s when you’re happy that your child is happy. I felt so guilty in the beginning of motherhood when I would take time for myself or left my son behind. This mom guilt can weigh you down and doesn’t allow for a balanced existence between the woman and the mother in you. Being a mom is a full-time job, so it’s essential to take a break every once in a while.
I’m a morning person, so I make sure to exercise before my son wakes up. The house is quiet in the mornings so I get to do the things I need to do without being disturbed. I’m also very lucky to have my mom living with me to look after my son so I can have a bit of “me- time” or even go out for a walk. In order for me to take care of my precious Langa, I need to be my best self so I need to take care of me!
