When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
Since we’re in the midst of the holidays, things are particularly crazy! While spending several hours at the Korean spa sounds pretty amazing right now, I’ll make myself an at-home spa by drawing up a hot bath with this deeply cleansing Chrysalis Detox Soak and then writing in my gratitude journal about the big wins and quiet joys of my day.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
I love getting Thai massages, having tea and good heart-to-heart talks with girlfriends, and meditating. Practicing yoga is also such a huge part of my self-care routine. Even if I don’t have time to go to a studio, I’ll carve out 5 minutes of my day for a short and sweet flow—whether it’s an energizing morning practice, an afternoon pick-me-up, or a restorative one at night that eases me into bed.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
Part of it is legitimately scheduling it! Write in your planner or calendar that from 8pm to 9pm, you will be taking care of YOU. Hold yourself to this magical hour of self-care time, but also be flexible about what it entails. Perhaps you wanted to go to your yoga studio for that hour, but your kid got sick so you have to stay at home. That doesn’t mean that your self care time goes out the window though. Instead, pivot your plan and do something at home that is good for your mind, body, and spirit—even if that means putting on your favorite Netflix show, misting the air with a calming aromatherapy blend, and curling up with your comfiest wool blanket.
