When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
The last time I had “me time” was this morning. “Me time” is an absolute must for me, a daily priority and exists for me in mini moments. I usually take the mini moments before getting out of bed to start the day as a moment to focus on my breath and do a little mini meditation and gratitude practice. I consider my shower as me time. I use beautiful organic gorgeous smelling products and take mindful moments of presence and gratitude in the shower. I also weave me time into the tasks I have to do throughout the day. This morning I had a few hours of task time before heading to the office. I lit a candle, diffused some oils, and cleaned my kitchen soaking in the goodness of the aromas. I practised gratitude whilst cleaning in silence as our kitchen has just been renovated and we spent some time without a kitchen!
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
My favourite ways to practice self care are weaving them into my everyday life in mini intentional moments. I know that I need to connect with nature and walk, so I try to commit to walking outside in beautiful spaces at least once or twice a week. I also deeply love to create small sacred spaces within my home with crystals, flowers, and natural objects that remind me to stop and soak in mindful moments. I love to dance, meditate, drink beautiful organic tea, appreciate flowers, read and be around inspiring women.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
The way we think about “me time” is imperative to explore. Sometimes we can get caught up in thinking that me time needs to be elaborate. Nails, hair, spa treatments etc. However for me and I know for mothers that are time poor, the mini self care practice moments are ever so important. A moment of mindfulness, a beautiful tea, a 5 minute shower, all with paying attention to being present for the experience and deeply grateful.
