When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
6am this morning at my Vinyasa yoga class. I love to get up early and have that time to myself. I have a 5.30am alarm and that can be to walk, run, yoga or meditate. It is like my morning tapas menu. I love the stillness and quiet that you get in the early morning and the sunrise is a complete bonus!
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self-care?
I am a very passionate self-care advocate as it seems my entire career has been finding ways to share that message. I find small ways every day to integrate my own self-care. It is making the ritual of self-care bite size that makes it achievable for the long term.
1. Meditation – using a guided meditation app or just focusing on my breathing for 1 minute
2. I am completely inspired by the ritual of bathing and we have an enviroswim (which means no chemicals) pool and spa. One of my favourite bathing rituals is to have a night time spa looking at the stars, then finishing off with a cold plunge (believe me in winter it is refreshing).
3. Washing my hands – When I created the ASPAR handwash it was really important for us that the essential oils and the botanicals had a therapeutic effect. So every time I wash my hands I emulsify the hand wash and then take three deep breaths inhaling the pure aromas (designed to calm the mind). This is a small recharging ritual that you can do many times a day.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
Be kind and gentle to yourself. So often we start with enormous goals and it all becomes overwhelming and we can easily lose momentum. Start small and treat yourself like you would your best friend.
