When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time? 

I have ‘me-time’ for an hour every week in my drum lessons (proper drums, not African) that I am taking. I love learning the drums and always feel so reinvigorated and motivated after every session.

What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?

Now that my youngest is in school, I have more time for exercise and try and get to the gym or go for a big walk three times a week. I love it when the weather gets warmer as I can walk by the beach. I also had to go to the osteo this year for a problem that came up but, now that is resolved, I am going to keep going once every couple of months as it’s a beautiful mix of massage and readjustments. I also drink loads more water now and find I am getting into the habit of drinking it – which is fab.

What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?

Be realistic about how much time you have for ‘me-time’. I used to beat myself up all the time about not exercising but, when I looked at my week, it just wasn’t possible. So I planned to start when I had more time – when my littlie went to school – and let go of the recriminations in the meantime. I would also say that you need to schedule your me-time in and plan around it. If you expect for time to just pop up and present itself, it won’t – as mums there’s always something else to do. And lastly, I would say read a book instead of doing the dishes – the dishes aren’t going anywhere and what’s more important? Looking after yourself or making sure the kitchen is clean?
