When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
We are in Koh Samui for a month for my husband’s work and so the current situation we are in is not typical. By this, I mean that though this is not our first time doing this, it is extreme in that I am with both kids, non-stop and I do not drive (which is a must on the island) so that makes our isolation even more noticeable.
I am explaining all this to you because the last time I had me-time was two weeks ago before we came to Koh Samui. Zoard was in kindergarten at the time and I asked my husband ahead of time to be with Assya. This way I was able to have my roots colored at a hair salon. I have a stay at home mom, who comes with me to these appointments so we can have a chat without the kids. This happens once in every second month I think.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
I really enjoy running with our normal MacLaren stroller. Assya is OK with it once we are at the park. This is something I like to do before I pick up our son from kindergarten. And it is something I can do without a babysitter. We have never left Assya with a babysitter so it is beyond rare to find me without any of my children. That is why I love taking pictures on a daily basis because my whole Instagram account is based on Zoard and Assya. I started this hobby two years ago and I truly feel passionate about it to this very day. The children receive free clothes, products in exchange for my pictures and that is a nice feeling for me. I also enjoy helping out these smaller shops.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
My advice to others is : “make it work”, do not compare yourself to others. Yes, others might have four loving grandparents, or a nanny and several babysitters but even if you do not have a lot of help on hand, there are ways to squeeze in some me time. Even if it means staying up late or piling up house chores because you might need to use up nap time as a me time. And do not aim for perfection. I paint my nails while I wait for the subway and I never blush from continuing to paint my nails on the subway as well.
