When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
Over the weekend a girlfriend picked me up for Pilates. We got halfway there then decided to go out for lunch and some window shopping instead. Best decision ever.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
Self care for me is either something for my mind like meditation, writing, taking a nap, having a bath, listening to a podcast etc. Or for my body; this is usually Pilates (when I’m not sneaking off to lunch) or a walk with the pram.
Self care is also looking after my mental health so catching up with my besties is a top priority!
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
I would say that you need to build it in from day one. If you have a partner, leave the house between feeds (if breast feeding) and allow them to learn how to parent in their own style. This is the best thing I ever did as now when I take time out I don’t need to leave instructions etc I literally just walk out the door. Also, say yes to any help that is offered.
Remember that you are really important too! Be a good example to your kids of a woman who values herself.
Instead of making school lunches the night before, go get a massage at the shopping centre and let the kids have a lunch order instead. They’ll love it and so will you. Stop spending all your time cleaning the house. The dirt is good for their immunity. You only have to be an excellent parent 72% of the time-the rest of the time let yourself off the hook and let them watch tv while you paint your nails once in awhile. They will be fine. (Maths may or may not be factual but you get my point.)
