When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
I actually had some pretty amazing “me-time” yesterday! My beautiful friend Natalie from Kindred Toxin Free Facials invited me for an incredible ritual treatment. It was 90 minutes of laying there just being pampered and it reminded me how hard it is for me to slow down, like it is for most mothers. But it’s necessary. I floated away feeling rejuvenated, calm and totally blissed out.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
I love to just sit quietly and read a book. It sounds so boring but having time to sit and read undisturbed is serious self care for me. Either on the balcony in the sun during a break between clients, or in the bath after Bo is in bed. Reading is my therapy I believe!
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
Get help! We cannot do it all. I regularly ask my parents to help me out, if I’m struggling to get things done, if I’m unwell or if I just need a break. I also reach out to my friends occasionally, just for little things like watching Bo for an hour while I get groceries or taking her to the park when I need to be doing work at home. It literally takes a village and we can’t expect to do all of that work ourselves so please ladies, ask for help!
I schedule time in for me, on my work days when Bo is at kindy. I also take advantage of my husband and let him know when I need some space alone and he will take her out on a Daddy Daughter Day for me. Although I usually get jealous that they’re having fun without me and call him to come and get me!
