Two minutes with … Leanne Foreman, mama to Luke, aged 21 and Lara, aged 19

When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?

Yesterday! For years I have made walking the dogs my me-time. I don’t focus on the fact that I’m walking the dogs, I focus on the fact that I am alone and able to listen uninterrupted to any music or podcast I wish.
Whenever I have to go on a business trip, I arrive or leave a day early so that I can have some me-time exploring where I am. It is easier to not be distracted from my me-time when I am totally removed from the washing, cleaning, etc.

What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?

Every weekend I take a long uninterrupted hot bath complete with candles, and my favourite essential oil in the water.
When I first sit down at my desk in my home office, I turn on my oil diffuser.
A Bowen therapy session - very gentle and nurturing.

What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?

If you don’t care for and nurture yourself with me-time, you won’t be recharging your batteries and therefore run the risk of having depleted energy for caring for others. My mother always said, “If the captain of the ship goes down then the whole ship goes down!”

To make time, I often double up or change the focus of things I already do, for example, I’ve changed the focus of walking the dogs to me-time. You can use your morning coffee time to reflect or journal while sitting in the sun and getting your Vitamin D.
