When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
I knew it would be hard to have some ‘me time’ once my daughter was born but I never really knew just how hard it would be. It took me about two months to actually stop and say ok, I really need some time on my own. I remember that evening, my husband was entertaining Ella and I closed the bathroom door and it was so quiet, it was heaven. I ran a bath, lit a candle, had a gin and even watched a whole episode of Greys Anatomy whilst in the bath. Since that evening, I’ve really tried to make sure I have some time on my own once a week and it has really helped me mentally. My husband and I are still waiting for a night off together though! Haha!
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
I love spending ‘me time’ doing a little pamper for myself. I love a hot bubble bath or a cute little bath bomb. Face and hair masks, getting the fake tan out and just making me feel like me again. I also love doing my hair and make up, dressing up and going out for drinks with the girls and just catching up and having adult conversations.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
The advice I would give to other Mummas would be to make sure you prioritise time for yourself one way or another. I know it is hard to do and life is so overwhelming with a new baby but it is absolutely essential for your mental health and happiness. Whether it be getting up before your baby wakes or staying up a bit later once they’ve gone to bed. Try and make use of the nap times too. I used to try and get all the house jobs done during Ella’s nap times but now I take 10 minutes for myself, whether it be to make a coffee or do my make up. That 10 minutes makes all the difference. It will make you feel completely new! I wish someone would have given me this advice when I was pregnant.
