When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
My last true “me-time” was honestly about 7 months ago, before my baby was born and I took a relaxing epsom salt bath.
I do try to fit in little spurts of me-time everyday, like working out or a long warm shower. Plus, as she gets older I’m getting more time in the evening which is awesome.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
I try to get a workout in at least 3 times a week during one of her nap times and once she goes down for bedtime I try to relax and watch a movie or a show…I may even throw some Ben & Jerry’s into the mix haha. I also like to get my nails done but the nail salons have only just started to open up so that’s still on my to-do list!
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
You have to do it! Even if it’s just little bits at first. Take a long shower/have a bath, put some make-up on (if that’s your thing), even if it’s simply going for a baby-free stroll. Whatever “it” is, ask your partner or someone you trust to watch the baby for an hour and go do it!
Mum-guilt is real but so is mum-burnout.
You need to carve out time to be you again because although you are now a mother, you are still a woman and taking care of yourself has never been more important than it is now.
If you are feeling stressed your baby can tell, you’re not going to feel like you’re being a good mother, and then it becomes a crappy cycle. Your baby needs a happy mama and it’s also important to model self-care for your children.
