Two minutes with … Janneke Williamson, mama to Banjo, aged 3 years

When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?

I’ve been crazy busy juggling motherhood, moving interstate and a few jobs lately so I have found it hard to have some special time - although recently I had something cancel and it freed up my morning. It was a glorious day and my little man was in day care so jumped at the opportunity to have a run on the beach and jump in the ocean. It had been so long since I’d had some proper time to myself and I felt so invigorated and energised afterwards.  My mind had been in a fog and it totally cleared my head and gave me focus. If I can manage to squeeze moments like this in regularly I know I’ll have more energy for the important things in life!

What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?

I love yoga and try to do a class once a week. That’s gone out the window the last month or so but I’m getting back on track. I also try to make sure our diet is as healthy and delicious as it can be. As soon as I let it slip in a busy patch I notice a huge difference in my energy and wellbeing so it really is something I come back to always. If I take the time to stock up, prepare and organise our weekly meals it has a ripple effect.

What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?

This is something I continue to struggle with but I know that if I don’t make some time for me then I’m not being the best service to the ones who need me. Sometimes it might be a quick 10 minute walk, some deep breaths, making some healthy chocolate or having a magnesium bath.
