When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
I’ve always believed having ‘me time’ as a mum is super important, and try to prioritise this time as much as possible. The last time I had some ‘me time’ was last weekend when me and my partner went away for a couple of days and my son stayed at his grandparents. We spent 2 nights away relaxing in a hotel, going out for food and shopping. Every few months me and my partner go away just us two and I love having the break- being able to be myself and more than just a mum. Having time away to be myself always makes me feel so much more relaxed and happy when I get back to him!
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
My favourite ways to have ‘me time’ include having a bubble bath, popping on a face mask, doing some meditation, going to the hair dressers or to get my eyelashes done, spa days, going out for food, to the cinema or weekends away. Most days I will ask my partner to look after my son for 20 minutes so I can just go and have a shower and listen to some music on my own and I listen to meditation every night to fall asleep.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
The advice I would give to mammas struggling to prioritise ‘me time’ would be to take as much help as you can get! If you have family and friends willing to step in and take care of your children, who you trust and you know your children will be safe and happy with, take advantage of that to get some you time! Don’t feel like asking for help makes you any less of a mother! Everyone deserves a break so if you do have people around you that can help, use their help! If your a good morning person, wake up half hour earlier than your kids to have that first moment of the day to yourself to have a shower or a cup of coffee- alone!
How do I make time? Personally, I have a lot of supportive family around me so finding ‘me time’ has never been an issue as my parents love to spend a lot of time with my son. But, I am self employed and the work I do can be done from home around my son, so for a while I was working full time from home around my little boy everyday. I love this and we get to spend a lot of time together and go out most days together which is amazing, but after a while I found I was feeling really drained and exhausted. I realised that it was probably healthy for us both to have some days where we aren’t together. My son now goes to a childminders twice a week and it’s done us both the world of good as it means I get two days a week to myself to do whatever I want to, and he gets to spend time with other children.
