When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
Yesterday I had some me time and got my hair done - it had been a looong time so it felt great!
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
Exercise is my number one non-negotiable for self care, it makes me feel empowered, it helps me to release stress and gives me mental strength too. I cannot live without the gym!
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
It is really hard! I often find when I do some time to myself I have such a long list of things to do that I end up stressing myself out and doing nothing! I think it is so important to utilize the help you can, whether that is an arrangement with a friend to take their child for a playdate and then they can return the favour for you, scheduling in time with your partner where you get a decent break and allowing them the same or if you are a single mum, as I used to be, reaching out to family members. I also think it can be possible to structure in “me-time” while you have your kids (I know that sounds like an oxymoron BUT hear me out hah), I find taking my kids for a walk, one in the pram, the other on his bike, allows me to get a sense of calm and switch off even though I am technically still parenting. The same applies to going for scenic drives with the kids, it gives me some peace to think and keeps them more quiet than if we were at home. The truth is, being a mum is incredibly hard and we all need a break but often it isn’t easy to find that break so we have to try and implement our own joy into the activities and lifestyle we create as we raise our babies.
