When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
I’m very lucky to have a supportive husband who really understands the importance of alone time to me. He often comes home from work and takes the boys to the park around the corner to get them out of the house for an hour or so to give me some space, and he always takes them on outings by himself. I like to spend my alone time reading, going to the gym, catching up with my girlfriends and getting out of the house. There is something quite liberating getting into the car and going wherever without having to pack children into the car and all the stuff needed for an outing.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
Looking after myself whether its taking time out when needed, treating myself a facial, nourishing my body when needed and sometimes indulging too.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
I schedule it, if I have things on or that I know that I need to do I try and link in with Jay as his work is very flexible and he can come home to watch the boys. I use the Les Mills kids club too as they can go there for 2 hours while I run some errands or head to appointments (you don’t have to be a member of Les Mills for your kids to attend) and it is not very expensive at all and they do great activities with the kids.
My advice would be to start small, try and find a 30 minute window where someone can help with your children and do something for yourself. If leaving your kids makes you feel guilty try and remember a happier and rested mama means happier children. But if it really is too hard to leave them during the day start with a night out, they are sleeping and will be none the wiser!
