Two minutes with … Christina Loewen, mama to Scarlett, aged 16 months

When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?

The last time I had me-time was a few days ago when my daughter was with her grandparents for a few hours. I spent that time reading a good book and drinking tea.

What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?

I tend to get stressed easily so self care is very important to me. I write to calm my soul and constantly remind myself to slow down and enjoy the moment. I also love to go hiking to care for my body.

What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?

It can be very difficult to find me-time for yourself with a child. I usually use her naps to do chores and cook which isn’t really me-time. My advice is don’t hesitate to ask for help! I am totally guilty of pretending I don’t need help but I always end up getting overwhelmed in the end. Ask someone to watch your child/children even just for an hour so you can have some precious me-time. When her father is home I leave her with him and go for long walks or hide away and read. Me-time is so important because you need to take care of yourself in order to take care of your family.
