When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
My resolution this year was to become more selfish, mwahahaha! Fortunately, it coincided with eight months spent writing a book. I’d walk the kids to the bus stop, tap away at the computer for a few hours, go for a paddleboard, then work until the kids arrived home from school. Hubby and I share the childcare 50/50, so we each have time solo. It’s important for our mental health. We’re lucky to work freelance.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
Ooh, reading, reading and reading! I could spend days on the couch with my nose in a book, only rising to eat and ablute.
Gardening is also relaxing. We have a thriving veggie patch in the backyard, although the largest plants at the moment are the weeds.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
Don’t apologise for being selfish. You need your own space. And make sure everyone else in the household does their fair share. We make the kids do most of the housework. I know it’s tough when they’re little. But Grace and Taj are capable of just about anything, inside or outside. (Except for mowing. Maybe next year…)
