When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?

I just completed a 65km coastal hike from Angourie to Red Rock, which is not a usual but certainly an interesting way to spend some ‘me time’. It was amazing though and I relished the time I was able to mentally and physically be with my Self.

What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?

This is big one for me. It’s something I teach in consultation so I have to be accountable to how I practice my own self-care. It can be as simple as having a tea in the sunshine first thing in the morning and setting my mind-set for the day (and then hope the best!). Or a walk along our beaches, or a swim in the ocean. I really like my own company – which might sound a little creepy but self-care comes with knowing what heals you. It is about providing the time to listen to your heart.

What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?

I would advise finding small things that you enjoy, and do them with the understanding that they are healthy for you. Break little moments down into a sense of gratitude. Be spontaneous – at least once a week. The more you realise you can choose some freedom, the easier it is to make time for it. Without scheduling in ‘me-time’ or being open to it – we can become resentful and unwell. Me-time is medicine and it is a simple as making a choice.
