When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
Last little bit of me time was yesterday morning when I headed out for an early morning run around the river with just our dog Banjo! No kiddies, no husband, just some of my favourite music and a good dose of fresh air. Running is something that I miss being able to do whenever I feel like it, and often I will run with the pram but it’s just not the same as being alone! “More snacks, more books” is usually what I hear!
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
Before we had our first baby I completed the “Calm Birth” course. I have found the breathing exercises to be so invaluable still to this day. Particularly at night time when I get in to bed, I often find I’m still wound up thinking about all the activities in the day and what is to come tomorrow and things I forgot to do! So laying in bed and taking a few very deep calm breaths is really amazing and helpful to wind down, and switch my brain off.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
Walking would have to be a wonderful way to switch off for me. The double pram days were great, but now we have moved up to bikes and scooters, it’s a bit more involved! It’s still great to just get out of the house and get active. On the complete other side of the scale, as much as I don’t love parking the kids in front of the TV for lengths of time, some days I find I actually just really need me-time. Whether it’s because I have work to do, or because the little darlings are just driving me nuts (!) at least you know then everyone is quiet, and happy and you can collect yourself and reset your head space.
