When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?

As a single parent, it can be tricky to get time to myself, but thanks to a pretty strict 7pm bedtime, I always get some alone time in the evenings. I really enjoy long bubble baths and watching movies (often at the same time!) I have a crazy hour at 6pm where I tidy up/do laundry/hoover etc so when Raffy’s in bed I can really relax. I also usually have one free night a week when Raffy is with his dad, and I use this time to blow off steam and go out with my friends. I love getting a bit dressed up and having a dance with the girls, or trying out new restaurants and bars.

What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?

Probably the main way that I keep myself feeling good is to spend time getting ready every morning. I love choosing my clothes, and doing my hair and make up as it makes me feel like a more efficient, put together version of me.

What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?

We’ve factored my dressing time into the morning routine, and Raffy is really good at playing on his own while I take time for myself. It’s so easy to forget yourself when you have school runs and packed lunches to cater for, and I really benefit from the calm minutes alone in the morning to prepare for the day. It definitely took some practice, but now he’s used to giving me half an hour while he watches TV or plays with Lego and we can all start the day on the right foot!
