When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
Actually I had a 30 minute bath yesterday. Just me and the warm water. And of course my kids outside of the bathroom, but my husband was there with them, so I could have a rest.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
Sometimes it’s really hard to find time just for myself, but it’s also really important. I am a full-time mom and housewife at the moment so I stay at home with my 16 month old boy while my 5 year old girl is at kindergarten. I have to do everything: the cooking, the cleaning, the washing, the feeding while entertaining my kids at the same time. And not to forget that I am a loving wife, so our love life cannot be neglected either. I am lucky that I have an understanding, helpful and funny husband so when he is at home he can be very useful.
Sometimes we ask my mother-in-law and father-in-law for some babysitting so we can go out to see a movie or have a dinner out – because not just “me-time” but “we-time” is also important.
We have other awesome families in the neighbourhood so we can count on each other. When my Husband and I would like to go shopping alone, we ask one of our neighbours to take care of our kids for a few hours and of course they can ask the same from us too.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
Never be afraid to ask for help. If you have somebody (a grandparent, an aunt or uncle, a friend, a neighbour) who can take care of your kids, if only for a few hours don’t hesitate. They will be fine and you can sleep, relax, recharge and do whatever you want. It’s up to you. Believe me you will be a very different person after that few hours.
