When was the last time you had “me-time” and how did you spend that time?
It’s been a while! I had my second son in France 10 weeks ago and as we have no family or ‘village’ over here, there’s definitely less time to kick back. I have an amazing husband though, so since Cruz was born I’ve had a lovely dinner out with some girlfriends, gone to the gym and had a couple of hours to go have a quiet coffee. ‘Me time’ is so important to being a happy Mumma in my book.
What are some of your favourite ways to practice self care?
I love the outdoors and getting fresh air so a nice long walk or time in nature always rejuvenates me. I don’t mind a bit of pampering either though 😉 so a lovely massage or just a long hot shower keeps me going.
What advice would you give to mamas struggling to create “me-time”? How do you make time in your schedule for yourself?
Like I’ve mentioned, I think it’s an integral part to keeping a healthy mindset as a Mum. Motherhood, while a total blessing, can also be grueling work (especially with stroppy toddlers!) so having allotted time just for you is essential. My oldest goes to nou nou (French daycare) a few days a week and my lovely husband will take both boys when I go to the gym or need a break with my friends. Cruz is exclusively breastfed so it takes a bit of pre-planning before I ever leave him.
My advice is to be extra organized! When the kids are asleep, I always get outfits ready for the next day, have lunches made, and pre plan meals for the week. There’s never enough hours in the day so if you have a plan you can stick to, then you can always find time just for you. I’ve also found that having a support system or village around you is key to navigating the challenges that motherhood can bring.
